In this documentary, filmmakers Deborah and Warren Blum embark on a deeply personal journey to uncover the hidden heroism of Carl Laemmle, Deborah's great-grandfather's first cousin, who founded Universal Studios and used his influence to save Jews from the Holocaust.

What begins as a heartfelt mission to learn about Uncle Carl, evolves into a powerful quest for lost history and family truth. Deborah, Warren, and their 11-year-old, travel to Germany -- after locating and learning the stories of three families Carl saved now living in California. In Germany, not only are they surprised to encounter Germans working to preserve the past, but locate the oil and grease factory Deborah's great-grandparents were forced to turn over to the Nazis.
